HubSpot Migration Services

Partner Migration Services

Do it Yourself Migration

Given the wide variety of websites, content management systems, and techniques, no two HubSpot website migrations are alike.

Let's take a look at your website migration options. (Check out our migration approach.)

HubSpot Migration

  Low to moderate difficulty.

  1. You are replatforming (meaning, you are recreating your webiste without any significant changes).
  2. Your website is fairly simple. That's a good thing. Simple usually equals fast and inexpensive.
  3. A free or low-cost theme will do just fine.
  4. Your website meets HubSpot's migration services guidelines.
  5. HubSpot's $20/page rate and 150 page limit sounds perfect to get you started.
  6. You'll look at redesign options when the time comes.
  7. You have a HubSpot CMS Professional or Enterprise subscription.

HubSpot will replicate your existing site, without changes.

Partner Migration

  Moderate to high difficulty.

  1. Your website is complex. It contains content types or elements that HubSpot would rather send to a Solutions Partner.
  2. Your website is a beast. Your SEO is questionable and probably needs to be optimized.
  3. You're planning to redesign or will redesign through the migration process.
  4. Off-the-shelf generic themes won't address your website challenges or opportunities.
  5. You love the idea of collaboration and relish the opportunity to create your best website ever.
  6. You have a HubSpot CMS Professional or Enterprise subscription (potentially Starter level, too).

Fully customizable. Excellent choice for those wishing to update, redesign, and/or optimize.

Do it Yourself Migration

  Low difficulty.

  1. You're okay using a low cost or free theme from the asset marketplace.
  2. You're familiar with HubSpot's page editor and don't need to go into the back end code.
  3. Your website isn't huge and you like the idea of designing each page yourself.
  4. You have the skills in-house (or via a valued vendor) to develop templates and build pages.
  5. Your website doesn't have special coding and/or you're comfortable working in HTML and HubL code.
  6. You have a HubSpot CMS subscription at any level.

Completely do it yourself. Functionality depends on theme chosen.

Free CMS or HubSpot CMS?

Free CMS Products

Often requires developers or users to have technical knowledge to make changes and updates.

Managers purchase SSL from hosting providers. Website hosting is separate. Support is extra.

Complexity inhibits marketer changes leading to delays and missed opportunities.

Ends up being pretty costly.

Frequently Asked Migration Questions

How are migrations done?

We follow a very similar approach to how HubSpot's migration team handles migrations, with some notable differences:

  1. We work collaboratively with clients, providing you with an opportunity to participate in the migrations process. This often means faster time to market. It also means you'll know how to do it going forward. We love empowerment.
  2. We are flexible, and welcome modifications and custom-design requests through the migration process. This is handled through change orders that we both agree to in scope and budget.
  3. We aren't afraid to tackle the tough stuff. We're blessed with a dev team with mad skills.
  4. We optimize templates, modules, and the live site for accessibility both in coding best practices and via AccessiBe (we include a 1-year subscription with every DropZone Pro Theme+Migration project). See the next Question to learn more about AccessiBe.
  5. We can rebuild (or train you to rebuild) email templates.
  6. We offer training & coaching services for the CMS, other HubSpot Hubs, our DropZone Pro Theme, and in digital strategy.

The accessWidget:

  1. Has no effect on load times as it loads asynchronously
  2. Supports people with Epilepsy, Visual impairment (including elderly people), Cognitive and learning disabilities, ADHD, Blindness, and Motor impairments.
  3. Is easily configurable by website visitors.

How much does a website migration cost?

Our approach is collaborative. Through a web meeting, we'll share how we do migrations and ask important questions that'll help inform the project's scope and address any issues your current website may be experiencing. That, in turn, informs the budget estimate. With the project scope and an estimated budget in front of us, we can make informed decisions on how to reduce either or both. Estimating without determining scope of work is guessing. We'd rather be accurate and happily welcome you to participate in that process.

That all said, migration budgets are often similar to redesign budgets, just minus the development stage. Thanks to our DropZone Pro Theme, you save thousands.

How long does a migration take?

Traditional migrations take 4-8 weeks minimum. But...Kayak's migrations dramatically reduce that time frame to weeks and potentially even days. This is because our dev team has pre-developed 20+ advanced content modules and 8 common page layout templates already. With this approach, you'll never start from scratch again. You can move to importing content and building new pages very quickly. Redesign the content or reconfigure the theme. Fast.

Does Kayak offer custom website design?

Certainly. And, with a massive head start over traditional approaches. We've pre-developed 20+ content modules with advanced functionality, and pre-configured them into UX-optimized layouts that are fully editable in a no-code environment. If needed, we can quickly reconfigure a new layout(s) for your website, skipping the design and development cycle. Then, we apply your brand. The result is a fully designed and developed website that's near-custom. And, if needed, we can develop additional components specifically for you.

How do I know if my projects is "complex"?

There are a few hints to watch for. HubSpot may tell you that they don't do "that" when you request a migration through them. Your team or a previous team may have cobbled together a variety of disconnected website tools to create or manage your current website. You've had to work with IT in the past because marketers can't make changes easily. Your site has dynamic content.

How can I get my website migration into HubSpot CMS done for free?

Our approach is collaborative. Through a web meeting, we'll share how we do migrations and ask important questions that'll help inform the project's scope and address any issues your current website may be experiencing. That, in turn, informs the budget estimate. With the project scope and an estimated budget in front of us, we can make informed decisions on how to reduce either or both. Estimating without determining scope of work is guessing. We'd rather be accurate and happily welcome you to participate in that process.

Why can't you migrate my entire website?

Technology from one platform to another can be quite different. Some are open-source, and others not. Some permit root-level coding, and some do not. Some offer import/export capabilities and some do not. the list goes on. There may be legal reasons as well, like accessing or replicating personally identifiable information, passwords, user generated content, etc. We do our best in the Audit stage of our migration service to identify barriers to full site migrations and provide recommendations or options on how to address them. ultimately it's your decision on these.

Why do you call it a content migration?

Content is transferrable, the tech isn't. Elements like page layouts and sliders are re-created in HubSpot using platform-specific tools. If your current website lives on another platform, it must be rebuilt. Unfortunately, there's no other way. The same would hold true if you migrated to/from Wix or Weebly, another platform, or even a custom coded app.

Why can't you simply import my website?

Sometimes we can. For example, if your website has an RSS feed, we can pull the feed and import it into HubSpot's blog tool. That can save a boatload of work and reduce your budget. When we see that kind of opportunity, we jump on it. Otherwise, it's a manual build, custom styling, and copy/paste of your content.
